The Winter Solstice has been celebrated by civilisations ancient and new over millennia. Often concealed beneath myth, elaborate artifice and tradition, at its core it is a physical event. It marks the commencement of winter and the journey back towards warmth and the promise of Spring. It is a moment of renewal and promise. For the mountains it has a particular significance.
