Circus Solarus will be conducting a series of workshops for members of the community, with the aim of creating street theatre performances for Wintermagic 2007. The performances will be inspired by the work of the Katoomba Amusements Company who entertained visitors to the Blue Mountains in the early 1900's. See photos of Circus Solarus and read more for workshop details.
Workshops will examine the unique features of street arts, which has gained credibility over recent years both here and overseas as a highly specialised form of theatre.
Circus Solarus is a professional street theatre group with 20 years experience in festival entertainment, both here and overseas. As street theatre performers, Solarus specialises in unique colourful costumes and comic characters in the carnival tradition. Their style has its origins in pre-circus European Carnival – irreverent and physical, with improvised interaction with the public. Circus Solarus explores and develops all aspects of the Theatre of Celebration, whether as performers at festivals and events, or as facilitators for community cultural development projects. The company is committed to transforming the everyday public space through street theatre, large visual imagery and community projects. Circus Solarus has built a reputation for creating contemporary carnival and lively comic performances. The company's skilled performers and visual artists can animate events in the unique Circus Solarus style, or work with groups from the community to tell local stories through art and performance.
