Winters in the mountains really are cold. As a result, our celebration is somewhat more energetic and emphatic than you might find on the plains. It is also a time when the main street of one of Australia’s most famous towns, Katoomba, is handed back to the community. A time when artists and buskers, dancers and drummers, singers and snake handlers, jugglers and gymnasts, musicians and mass choirs take over the town.

A programme of activities runs from the celebration of "World Juggling Day"  with the Katoomba Juggling Institute on Saturday 14th June and continues through the week after the big Festival Saturday until June 28th.

Lastly, it is a time of renewed friendships and family reunions as parents and grandparents, children and friends return to celebrate our community’s big event. There is also the opportunity for new friendships which is why we’d like to share the experience with you.

This year the very moment when the earth commences its return jounrney is 9:59am on the Saturday morning of the Festival (see details of morning activities).
