The event will be compered by Meredith Osborne, a community educator from Katoomba who has been trained as a climate ambassador by former US Vice President and Nobel prize winner Al Gore. “Al Gore trains people from all around the world to spread a grassroots message about climate change and its effects,” said Ms Osborne. “This movie is a powerful reminder of the fragility of our world and its atmosphere. We are now seeing the consequences of altering the planet’s basic chemistry. “Global warming is not a vague threat off into the future or a danger in some distant frozen land. It’s right here and now — the effects are being felt by all of us in the Blue Mountains.” Ms Osborne will outline some simple, affordable actions to reduce carbon output in homes, schools and workplaces. An Inconvenient Truth will be shown at the Winter Magic satellite festival on Thursday June 26, 8pm at the Hotel Gearin Dining Room, Katoomba. The presentation is hosted by the Katoomba-Leura Climate Action Now group, which is working to raise awareness of global warming, The Climate Project (Australia) and the Australian Conservation Foundation.
