The Ouroboros
The Ouroboros

This year’s Winter Magic poster by local artist Lyn Harrison features the Ouroboros.

Lyn has created the Winter Magic posters for the past 14 years. Every year she captures another unique aspect of the festival. This year is no exception. The Ouroboros is a perfect representation.

The Ouroboros

The Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or a dragon swallowing its own tail to form a circle. It symbolises ideas of cyclicality, unity or infinity.

Winter Magic celebrates the reoccurring cycle of the Winter Solstice and the unity of our community as we come together to mark this special occasion.

Don’t miss that special moment in time in 2008! Come to Carrington Place and be ready for the 9.59am Solstice Ceremony. Celebrate Winter as only a Winter Magic crowd can.

Every year at this time, we anticipate this astronomical change with its promise of Spring and warmer weather. We also look forward to meeting family and friends and reuniting through a vast array of shared experiences at the festival.

The depiction of The Ouroboros is believed to have been inspired by The Milky Way, as some ancient texts refer to a serpent of light residing in the heavens.

On Winter Magic night, Western Sydney Amateur Astronomy Group will bring Sidewalk Astronomy into Carrington Place.

Look through their telescopes and search for this legendary serpent of light. At the very least if the skies are clear; you will see the wonder of The Milky Way – the centre of our galaxy.
