Why Winter Magic is Important to the Community |
| Winter Magic since its inception fourteen years ago has been the people’s festival. It exists because the community wants it. But, as well as being a fantastic family fun day, Winter Magic makes a major contribution to the community in another way. |
Winter Magic attracts in excess of 40,000 locals and tourists throughout the day. The Festival has a very strong local following but also draws large crowds from Sydney in the East, Bathurst and beyond in the west, from all eight states and territories and from dozens of countries on five continents. It is the biggest event in the Blue Mountains and generates in excess of $1 million into the local economy annually. It acts as a catalyst for Katoomba’s economic development, makes a major contribution to positioning the Blue Mountains as a tourist Mecca, and boosts awareness of the growth of Katoomba as centre of arts and culture. The festival, held on historic Katoomba Street, celebrates the unique place the Blue Mountains holds in the history of our country and serves as a reminder of its future promise. Winter Magic is a cultural phenomenon that is bounding from strength to strength. |
