Winter Magic Festival :: SATELLITE EVENTS
SATELLITE EVENTS
While the Official Programme for Winter Magic 2005 is a two day event, there is a huge extended programme with events before and after the official programme.
Thursday 16th will see internationally renowned, Hermitage Vocal Choir at St Hilda's Church, Friday jazz at the Carrington, a big programme Friday and Saturday at the Gearins, ArtStreet, Carrington Balls (see photo) and don't forget Everglades on Sunday. Please have a look.

Soon to be famous
Carrington Balls
The Limerick competition must include the words "Winter Magic" and / or Katoomba. The winner will be featured on a special "Winter Magic Celebration" wine label. Hand deliver or mail your witty lines to 42 Katoomba Street, Katoomba 2780. Closing date: Monday 13 the June 2005. Also note that Katoomba Wines sells is selling a range of Winter Magic wines and a percentage of the price of each bottle sold will go to the non-profit Winter Magic Festival Association

This event should not be missed. 100 shops have participated this year. ArtStreet 2005 will feature illuminated works as part of a "night gallery" and a window performance stage at Matthew Francis Hairdressing. Vote for the People's Choice or pick up a catalogue at Sydney Water. ArtStreet catalogues also available at Blue Mountains Trolley Shoppe near the station. Official judging will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 15th June.

Some new planets will appear in the western sky in the week preceding this year's Festival. Local genius, Ken Beattie, has designed and built 3 metre coloured balls that will bring an ethereal perspective to Katoomba's most famous landmark, the Carrington Hotel (photo above shows Conway Edman, organizer of ArtStreet 2005, standing next to one of the balls). They are very bright and will probably be visible from Sydney. In fact, we also expect them to join the Great Wall of China as the only man made objects that are visible from outer space.

Hermitage Vocal Ensemble at St Hilda's Thursday 16th June 2005 (see full programme here)
The Hermitage Ensemble comprises professional a capella singers from Russian Orthodox churches and opera companies.
Their activities promote the Christian vocal tradition and  the Russian Orthodox church music and singing all over the world.
We are trying to draw together  friends of such historical art and culture by singing traditional liturgical Russian hymns like Gloria, Alleluia, Sanctus, Lord's prayer etc. using masterpieces of the famous Russian composers such as P.Tchaikovsky, S.Rahmaninov, D.Bortniansky and others.
They have already achieved our success in many countries as Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, the U.K.
