Winter Magic back in 2019
Winter Magic is in hiatus in 2018, so will not be held this year. This decision was not made lightly, but the festival will return, refreshed and invigorated, on 22 June 2019. We’re getting a handle on things!
Winter Magic now attracts people from all over the world to celebrate the solstice on the shortest Saturday in winter. For its entire 24 year history the Winter Magic Festival has been run by the community, for the community of Katoomba and the Blue Mountains. This is a tradition we want to keep. But as crowds have grown, and regulation has tightened, it has become harder to stage the festival. Having a break in 2018 will enable us to refresh and ensure the festival returns in 2019, and beyond.
A new committee was elected in March 2018 and has begun the work of rebuilding the festival. We have accepted an offer from Blue Mountains City Council and Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise to review the festival and develop new management and operational plans. We look forward to engaging positively and closely with Blue Mountains Economic Enterprise to come up with creative solutions to ensure the continuance of the festival in 2019 and beyond.
In the meantime, our first Association planning day will be on 11 May 2018 in the old Katoomba Library in Civic Place, from 1pm until 4pm. This is an open session and will be the first step in refining our vision for a magical 2019. Please join us.
