Winter Magic is returning in 2019 with a fresh, community-based artistic vision

The Winter Magic Festival committee has been working behind the scenes to develop a fresh artistic vision for the return of Winter Magic in 2019 and is inviting community groups to develop arts and performance projects for presentation on 22 June 2019, when the festival returns.

Festival president Naomi Parry said:

“In 2019, the festival is adopting a new artistic model, one that is aimed at creating real opportunities for community-driven creative engagement. This new framework is a response to community feedback and the Festival Committee’s decision to focus on culture, community, and supporting our artists. We have been fundraising  and hope to be able to provide funds to support new artistic endeavours on the day.

We want to allow arts and performance to flourish in the street and within spaces like the Cultural Centre, Civic Place, and the areas activated for the recent successful Live & Local Festival. We will make space for these activities by reducing the number of stalls, and limiting the parade.

The Winter Magic Festival invites community groups from the Blue Mountains to participate in the 2019 Winter Magic Festival by developing arts projects that will be presented/performed on the day of the festival. These may include street theatre, staged performances, exhibitions or installations, and activities. We are also seeking expressions of interest from Katoomba businesses that would like to host or support projects.

The festival is also keen to hear from people who wish to assist the organising committee. We need people who are interested in coordinating performers, waste management, communications and other key roles. In the coming weeks we will also be opening applications for performers and stallholders. We are also keen to hear from sponsors and donors – donations may be made through our website, www.wintermagic.com.au and we invite sponsors to get in touch.”

Winter Magic’s Mission is to engage the people of Katoomba and the Blue Mountains in a sustainable, vibrant, annual community winter solstice celebration of the arts and creativity centred on Katoomba Street.
