What is Winter Magic?
The Winter Solstice has been celebrated by civilisations ancient and new over millennia.
Often concealed beneath myth, elaborate artifice and tradition, at its core it is a physical event.
The Winter Solstice marks the commencement of winter and the journey back towards warmth and the promise of Spring. It is a moment of renewal and promise. For the mountains it has a particular significance.
Winters in the mountains really are cold. As a result, our celebration is somewhat more energetic and emphatic than you might find on the plains. It is also a time when the main street of one of Australia's most famous towns, Katoomba, is handed back to the community. A time when artists and buskers, dancers and drummers, singers and snake handlers, jugglers and gymnasts, musicians and mass choirs take over the town.
It is a time of renewed friendships and family reunions as parents and grandparents, children and friends return to celebrate our community's big event. And most importantly it is a time for new friendships which is why we'd like to share the experience with you.
Please come and join the celebration of Winter Solstice with us at the Blue Mountains Winter Magic Festival.
