Waste Management Plan
The festival is now moving in to its fourth year of its Waste Management Plan and the committee members are working hard on strategies to ensure that the festival is sustainable for our wonderful community.

RUBBISH ROOMS:
There will be 9 staffed Rubbish Rooms to help you dispose of your waste:
Green: Organic waste – food scraps, biodegradable packaging, paper, serviettes
Yellow: Recycling – cans, bottles, recyclable plastics, glass
Red: General waste – everything else
Note: the street bins will be covered and not in use for the day.
Our strategy is to help minimise mixed waste going to landfill, as well as minimising mess and confusion.

“Managing public place recycling that actually delivers waste reductions is no small feat and the Winter Magic Festival Sustainability Team certainly gave it their all last festival. In partnership with Blue Mountains City Council, the team put in a huge amount of work in the planning and management of the waste and recycling systems, including extensive signs, engaging food stall holders before the event and managing waste and recycling systems on the day.
As a result of these efforts, the event generated around 2 tonnes less waste than the previous year’s festival and almost a quarter of the total waste generated was able to be recycled. It was observed that the event seemed much cleaner during the day as well.
Council looks forward to working with the Winter Magic Festival Committee and Sustainability Team in making further improvements to waste management and resource recovery at next year’s Festival.”
